EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN CONNECTICUT

The Health, Emotion, and Behavior Laboratory (HEB Lab) at Yale University is looking to hire a postdoctoral associate with a Ph.D. in developmental psychology, education, or a related field to work with us on basic and applied research related to a universal, school-based, prevention program, The RULER Approach to Social and Emotional Learning (“RULER”). The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong writing and presentation skills, exceptional project management and leadership abilities, and competence in advanced data analytic techniques.

RULER builds on decades of research on emotional intelligence and provides a strategy for schools to make emotions central to all aspects of learning. Through our research and dissemination, program development, and training initiatives, we provide skill-building opportunities for students, teachers, school leaders, and family members that serve to enhance self‐ and social awareness and improve their decision‐making abilities in ways consistent with building mutually supportive and compassionate relationships, and improve performance and engagement in school.

Much of the scholarship on emotional intelligence was first developed at the HEB Lab. The specific aims of our research arm of are to: (1) promote optimal learning, working, and living environments for children and adults using skill‐based social and emotional learning (SEL) programs; and (2) evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and the mechanisms by which they have their impact. Within the HEB Lab, the principal investigators designed RULER to improve the climate as well as enhance the content of learning. RULER applies insights from emotional intelligence research to classroom settings. The PIs and their team continue to refine the existing curricular materials, design and implement new programs, and evaluate their impact on academic achievement and a range of related outcomes, including receptiveness to new ideas, sound judgment and decision‐making abilities, and the ability to build healthy relationships. These efforts are achieved by working with the broader community of SEL practitioners, researchers, and advocates—including the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)—as well as with a rapidly growing network of participating educators, administrators, students, and parents.

Interested applicants should submit via email a cover letter and CV, one or more writing samples, and a minimum of two letters of reference to: Dr. Susan Rivers at susan.rivers@yale.edu. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt.
