EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN TENNESSEE

The Department of Behavioral Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is undergoing expansion, and is currently accepting applications for faculty positions.   Three position are available, all at open rank, although mid-career candidates (at late Assistant or Associate level) are especially encouraged to apply.  All candidates should have a Ph.D and clinical internship from APA accredited programs clinical psychology with specialty training in pediatric or clinical child psychology or neuropsychology.  All applicants must be eligible for Tennessee licensure in Psychology. The first opening is for the Clinic Director.  This position involves programmatic and administrative oversight of clinical psychology services.  This includes outpatient, inpatient, consultation-liaison, and specialty services.  Current staffing includes 10 doctoral level psychologists (both faculty and staff psychologist positions), 3 psychological examiners, and 6 postdoctoral clinical psychology fellows.  Given the integration of training in our clinical program, this position also involves a central role in development of our training program.  Some research activities are expected, but the primary focus will be on programmatic development of clinical services and training. Preference is for candidates at the Associate level. The remaining positions are for faculty with a primary research focus.  Specific areas of interest are open, but we are looking for candidates with general interest in working with two populations: children with sickle cell disease, and children with brain tumors.   For one position, we prefer a candidate with a strong neuropsychology background and interest in child neuropsychology research.  The second position may include candidates with interest in neuropsychology or pediatric psychology.  The primary responsibility in these positions is development of independent research programs.  Faculty rank will be commensurate with previous experience, including publication in peer reviewed journals and success in obtaining competitive extramural funding.
St. Jude is an internationally recognized leader in research for children with catastrophic disease and was recently voted the number one place to work in academia by The Scientist magazine.  Salary and benefit packages are very competitive and commensurate with experience.  Research positions include a startup allowance and a strong ongoing commitment of research support including space and support personnel.  Joint appointments to the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, and the University of Memphis Department of Psychology are also available.  Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.  Interested candidates should submit a current CV, cover letter with statement of interests, and representative publications to: Sean Phipps, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Behavioral Medicine, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or via email to sean.phipps@stjude.org.
