LISTSERV INSTRUCTIONS and INFORMATION

The members-only Division 53 listserv is a valuable tool for keeping up with division activities and important issues in the field, and provides a discussion forum for scientific and professional topics and a means for exchanging information (job listings, referrals, etc.).  The DIV53 list currently includes approximately 2000 members.  Please note , there are currently two lists in operation: (1) the General Division 53 listserv to which all members may post and reply, and (2) the Announce-Only listserv, which is used strictly for communicating official Division 53 business to the members (no reply posts). These lists are managed by Jarrod Leffler, Ph.D., ABPP (jarrod.leffler@nationwidechildrens.org).

Posting Messages:Members may post messages at any time by emailing to DIV53@LISTS.APA.ORG

Messages posted throughout the day are stored and consolidated in a DIGEST that is mailed to all listserv members each evening at midnight.  The DIGEST will arrive as a message from APA's “Automatic Digest Processor” with DIV53 Digest listed in the subject line.

Note: The DIGEST function does not store attachments- please do NOT send attachments with your postings.  Additionally, submitting emails to be posted in Plain Text format, rather than HTML or Rich Text format, decreases the likelihood of the posting losing its formatting, resulting in random text when sent out in DIGEST form.  Thanks!

Subscribe or Unsubscribe from the Listserv:To join the listserv, send an email to div53list@gmail.com with the command:ADD DIV53 (Email address) (First name) (Last name) in the body of the message (do not include parentheses or add anything in the subject line).  For instance:  ADD DIV53 drjanedoe@childpsych.edu JANE DOE

Members may unsubscribe from the list at any time by sending a message to LISTSERV@LISTS.APA.ORG and typing SIGNOFF DIV53 in the body of the message (do not type anything in the subject line of the message).

Listserv Options:Members who wish to receive messages as they are posted (i.e., eliminating the DIGEST function) may send a message to LISTSERV@LISTS.APA.ORG and type SET DIV53 NODIGEST in the body of the message (do not type anything in the subject line of the message).

A list of other commands/options can be obtained by sending a message to LISTSERV@LISTS.APA.ORG with the words INFO REFCARD in the body of the message (do not type anything in the subject line of the message).

This listserv provides a forum for a discussion and sharing of knowledge relevant to clinical child and adolescent psychology. The list is open to all members of SCCAP. The topics of discussion are determined by the listserv members and all are welcome and encouraged to participate. Intellectual contributions offered by each member are vital to an ongoing discussion that is educational, practical, and beneficial to its members.

Listserv Rules:

1. The list may not be used as a forum for illegal purposes, including but not limited to defamation, violation of intellectual property laws, violation of antitrust or unfair competition laws or violation of criminal laws.

2. Do not intentionally interfere with or disrupt other forum members, network services,  or network  equipment. This includes distribution of unsolicited advertisement or chain letters, propagation of computer worms and viruses, and  use of the network to make unauthorized entry to any other machine accessible via the Forum.

3. The list may not be used for electioneering (e.g., campaigning, solicitation of support), promotion of political actions (e.g., boycotts, letters suggesting legislation), fundraising activities, actions advancing personal or another's professional gain, advertising professional services, or for any other personal or monetary profit/gain or other commercial purposes. Do not post messages for which the primary purpose is to advance the business or financial interests of any person or entity, or otherwise to promote a financial transaction for the benefit of the author directly or indirectly.

Examples of prohibited communications include advertisements for products or services, notices regarding rental of office space, direct solicitations of listserv members to purchase products or services, and postings that include links to unapproved sites such as political or commercial sites.

Examples of messages that may be of financial benefit to listserv members but are not prohibited because they do not inure to the financial benefit of the author include news of job listings or position openings, or discussion of professionally-related products or services where the listserv member conveying the information is not in the business of selling the products or services. Announcements that provide useful professional information to List members but may also have some incidental commercial benefit to the sender (e.g. an author who is a listmember merely advising the List of publication of a professional book) typically would not be "commercial" for purposes of this restriction.

Examples of communications that may advance professional gain but are not prohibited because they are largely in the interest of promoting science and practice related to child and adolescent psychology include notices of recruitment for research participants in studies related to child and adolescent psychology (e.g., recruitment for clinician surveys).  When submitting a request for research participation please include the following paragraph listing your specific information:“The current study is being conducted by (person requesting involvement) under the guidance of (Advisor, Supervisor, or Mentor’s name) who can be contacted at (address, phone number and email address).  This study is approved by the (name of approving institution) IRB and has been assigned the following IRB number (please enter the assigned number).”

4. Do not post messages containing information that is defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal.

5. Maintain client confidentiality when discussing any clinical issues.

Removal from the list:

The SCCAP Listserv Administrator, acting on behalf of SCCAP, reserves the right to remove members from the list who consistently violate its Usage Guidelines.

Suggestions:

1. When replying to a previous posting on the list, "repost" only essential text from previous message, rather than the entire previous message. Many members receive the list in Digest form, and lengthy reposts make the daily Digest prohibitively lengthy.

2. Use detailed descriptions of your message in the "subject" line. The Digest is organized by Subject line.

3. Refrain from including styled text or attachments when possible. Neither translate well in the Digest format.
